Secrets from the Little Red Box

At the turn of the century, Evelyn Martin prepares to enter the 1900s as an independent woman, just as her mother desires, studying at business school in Portland, Oregon. Her mother's death brings her back to the ranch to help her father. Years begin creeping into the new century. Then, Evelyn returns to school where she meets Harry, a mining engineer from England. She privately wrestles with her desire to remain in Portland and her responsibility to return to the ranch and life in Prairie City where she may soon be known a an old maid. Harry's search for gold takes him on travels throughout the West, from Oregon to Arizona. He writes of his adventures, always wishing Evelyn were with him. Throughout the courtship by correspondence, Evelyn is still torn between her feelings for Harry and her duty to the ranch. Eventually, all is resolved with the secrets from Evelyn's little red box.
