Reviews a project carried out in Houston, a small British Columbia community, to improve the level of computer literacy among forestry workers and the general public in response to an apparent need for increased computer skills. The project had three components: a lunchroom learning program with two multimedia computers installed at two lunchroom locations at a sawmill; a public access program involving multimedia computers installed at the local public library; and a series of free computer camps for children and adults in the summer. A related program for basic skills upgrading was also launched at the sawmill. Issues revealed by each program, outcomes, and lessons learned are discussed, and recommendations for implementing similar programs are made.
