Promoting Healthy Adjustment Among Coming-out Lgb Youth

According to Willoughby, Doty, and Malik (2010), in addition to the normative struggles of adolescence and young adulthood, LGB youth may experience family, peer, and internal stressors unique to their sexual identity. This systematic literature review will address the factors that impact the coming out process of LGB youth and the acceptance they experience by their families. Impacting societal factors and negative societal factors will be reviewed to demonstrate the significant influence society has on LGB youth during the coming out process. Therapeutic implications for families will be explored through a review of the current literature.
