The aim of this study is to review literature about the evolution of the approaches to inclusion, co-teaching, and collaboration between 2004-2020. Special attention is paid to collaboration and co-teaching in K-5 settings. Additional foci of the review was on examination of co-teaching models used in the studies, and the impact collaboration has on general and special education teachers and students with and without disabilities in the inclusive settings. A review of the literature resulted in 15 studies. The benefits and challenges for teachers and students are discussed. Recommendations for future research, practice, and policy are included.
