"Astro Boy was developed by Dr. Osamu Tezuka, acknowledged as the father of narrative manga. Tezuka was inspired to become a comic artist upon seeing an animation war propaganda film, titled 'Momotarou Uminokaihei'. Tezuka introduced episodic storytelling and character development in comic format, in which each story is part of larger story arc. The only text in Tezuka's comics was the characters' dialogue, this gave his comics a cinematic quality.
