Test results are given for specimens that model insulating glass joints used in structural glazing applications. Three spacer geometries were investigated. The first was a rectangular spacer, resulting in a basic, three-sided adhesion joint. The second was a veeshaped spacer with the point toward the outer edge of the joint. The third was tee-shaped with the stem projecting outward. All specimens were made with a two-part silicone structural sealant. Static tensile strength rankings, in ascending order, are rectangular, vee, tee, and tee with bond breaker. The bond breaker provided only minor improvements for the tee spacer. The data showed a significant gain in strength with increased joint depth. These results are compared and discussed.
