A Programmer's Introduction to Basic Jovial

Descriptions are given of the basic elements of JOVIAL, a procedure-oriented and largely computer-independent programming language designed by the System Development Corporation for computer-based command/control systems. JOVIAL is derived from ALGOL 58, with the addition of an input-output notation, a more elaborate datadescription capability, and the ability to manipulate symbolic and other non-numeric values.
