The undeniable presence of the past and its cultural vestiges in displaced populations has been a noticeable feature of displaced populations across the globe. Yet the Mediterranean and Indian ocean region has not been a focus of study, something which this study seeks to remedy. The author's bring a clear understanding of the similarities and differences that existed between the types, modes and practises of enslavement in these wide spaces compared to other regions.
